ABOUT SUHA

Palestinian-American filmmaker, Suha Araj, is a New York-based writer and director from Ohio who has never had a thigh gap. Her passion lies in telling diaspora stories with humor and detail in order to find our universal connections. She has been supported and awarded along the way and continues to try on new genres and mediums. When she’s not creating a project you can find her directing romantic comedy podcasts, unknowingly mispronouncing words and reading your horoscope.

Rosa (by Suha Araj) represents a female voice we haven’t heard before, and takes us on a journey with a female character that we also haven’t seen before. The film blends formal assurance with depth and strength in the performances, balancing subject matter as disparate as flowers and corpses, but still speaking with total tonal confidence. Rosa’s narrative integrity as a short made it stand out, and it always kept us intrigued, by veering off in directions we never anticipated or expected.
